Employment Opportunity: casual positions available for teachers and educational assistants 

 

Small But Mighty Preschool is currently seeking teachers and educational assistants to add to our substitute roster. All employment positions are casual and require the selected individuals to cover for our permanent staff when needed, sometimes at short notice. There is potential for staff who are hired on our substitute roster to be moved into permanent positions as we expand as a company in the future. 

 

Small But Mighty Preschool offers Reggio-inspired, play-based preschool and junior kindergarten programming for children ages 3-5. We are dedicated to offering creative, inquiry based programs that are designed to engage and meet the needs of all our students. 

 

Job Requirements 

*Please note certification can be obtained after hiring, however, the candidate will be required to provide the necessary proof of education

  • 2 + years experience working in a classroom or early learning setting and/ or working with children with special needs 

  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR - Level C Certification (can be obtained within a designated time frame) 

  • Clearance from a Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check (current within the last six months) 

  • Proficiency in the English Language, both written and verbal

  • Experience working with speech, communication, language, and social skill development an asset

  • Possess patience, empathy and a positive attitude, as well as a passion for working with preschool aged children, teaching, and learning 

  • Be committed to the progress and inclusion of all students, and to contributing to a supportive team environment 

 

Job Responsibilities

*Please note, job descriptions and duties will slightly differ between teachers (Level 3 Early Childcare Educators) and educational assistants (Level 1 and 2 Early Childcare Educators)

  • Be well-versed in the Reggio Emilia approach, Small But Mighty Preschool’s inquiry-based educational philosophy and Flight: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework

  • Employ a variety of educational techniques to engage, guide and teach children

  • Lead students through large and small group learning activities

  • Help children to understand learning activities and/ or adapt information and materials to meet the needs of individual children

  • Support children with regulating emotions and developing social skills by acting in accordance with Small But Mighty Preschool’s Child Behaviour Policy, which encourages children to resolve disputes in positive and respectful ways

  • Provide comfort to upset children with compassion and offer support through calm guidance 

  • Support children as they work toward individualized goals and strategies

  • Observe and document student learning and progress

  • Prepare for lessons by organizing materials and equipment 

  • Supervise the class to ensure all children are safe during any given activity 

  • Respectfully collaborate with other educators including the teacher, guest teachers, and substitutes

  • Help maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards

  • Fully understand and safely implement our Health Policies and Safety Procedures

  • Attend training and professional development sessions when required
